Like most telecommunication companies Nextel Communications has a very
robust and complicated billing system. One of the more complicated portions
of their billing system is the configuration of rate plans. In general
a rate plan is the actual contract between the telecommunications company
and the end customer. The rate plan defines the access charge (monthly
fee), overage rates, etc. for different services and groups of services.
As a result of the complexity of price plans within their billing system
Nextel Communications created an application named RPAS (Rate Plan Approval
System) for managing the creation, workflow and research of rate plans
through a common simplified web interface that local market representatives
could utilize.
Nextel Communications has experienced a large amount of growth similar
to other technology companies. As the company has grown, so has RPAS.
The latest development of RPAS (Version 3.0) grew the scope of the previous
system (Version 2.6) by approximately 500%. The system grew to accomodate
over 9 different types of rate plan requests, search/research functionality
for Marketing, Customer Care, Direct and Indirect Sales Channels, etc.

that Lolay was involved.
